What is a Digital Title?
A digital title is a computer file that can be in any one of a number of formats, including PDF, ePub, Mobi, or .jpg for maps or other image items.
How are Digital Titles priced?
You set the price the customer pays to buy Digital and Digital and Printed title together as a single "combination" purchase.
As a rule, customers will balk at buying a digital title that's worth as much or more than the print version of the same title. Some publishers have a standard policy of selling the digital title for half the price of a retail print copy, while others charge a little more or a little less. The simple fact, though, is that a digital title has as much "value" for its reader as the physical copy, particularly when you're talking about the ability to access the title readily via laptops or mobile devices at the gaming table.
Whatever you decide, we suggest you do not give the Digital Title away for free unless you're doing so decisively as a sales or marketing tactic. If you give your title away for free as anything other than a short-term special deal, not only do you perpetuate a misapprehension about the value of digital media in general, but you risk establishing a low-value perception in the minds of potential future consumers about the worth of your paid products.
That said, you might consider giving something like a minimal "starter" Digital Title away for free. This way, you get your brand in front of people and give them a taste of what's to come, but you don't give them everything in your catalog for free.
How long does it take for my digital title to be approved?
If you are verified with us, your title will be approved automatically, and almost immediately. Please allow up to 15 minutes for any changes to be shown on your title.
If you're not yet a verified publisher, it can take 1-3 business days to approve new titles as a Publisher Relations representative works through the current queue to get to your title and make sure it is ready for the public.
How many Digital Titles can be submitted in a day?
Technically, you can upload and activate as many files as you like each day.
However, we strongly recommend you not release more than a couple of products per day, and in general not more than a few per week. This recommendation is for your own benefit: In general, having products on the Newest Titles product strip on our front page is your best, cheapest way to get them noticed, but we prevent any one publisher from showing more than three titles on that page at once.
In other words, if you launch all of your titles at once, you'd be losing out on a free advertising opportunity.
Can multiple files or file formats be uploaded for a Digital Title?
Yes. In fact, we prefer this method to your uploading zipped files or folders.
Titles can have more than one file associated with them. For example, some publishers like to offer one PDF version in color for screen reading and a second PDF with fewer graphic elements and in black-and-white for home printing (i.e., a "printer-friendly" version). Of course, the latter effect can also be achieved using layers in Acrobat.
Some publishers will offer multiple formats for a title, providing PDF as well as Epub, Mobi, Power Point, or other formats as well. The customer can then choose which format files to download and use after purchase.
Maps and other add on components can be provided as .jpg files (commonly called "JPEGS"). For customer convenience, large maps can consist of a JPEG of the full map and/or individual JPEGs of the map split into page-size pieces for home printing. All of the map files can then be uploaded separately and then downloaded all at once by the buyer for easy delivery.
Unless a single title had more than eight or so files, we encourage you to upload multiple files for your title rather than zip all of the files together and offer one larger zip file. It is more convenient for the customer not to have to unzip their downloads, and it also makes updating individual files easier in the future.
